Recipe for Fun!

Indoor play forts are great for one child or a close knit group of friends to foster creativity, problem-solving, and imagination through pretend play. Forts can offer a safe space for emotional regulation and independence, while boosting physical, social, and cognitive skills.

Step 1: Choose the Perfect Spot
Pick an area with enough space to build your fort—living rooms, bedrooms, or playrooms work well. A spot near a couch, chairs, or a table makes it easier to support blankets.

Step 2: Build the Structure
Arrange chairs, couch backs, or a table to create the frame. Place them close enough together so blankets can stretch across the top without falling.

Step 3: Add the Roof and Walls
Drape blankets or sheets over the furniture to form the roof and sides. Secure them with clothespins, clips, or by tucking them into cushions so they stay in place.

Step 4: Create the Entrance
Leave a small opening for a “door.” You can fold a blanket back or hang one loosely, so it acts like a curtain.

Step 5: Make It Comfortable
Line the inside with pillows, cushions, or soft blankets to create a cozy floor and seating area.

Step 6: Add Fun Extras
Bring in flashlights, books, stuffed animals, snacks, or quiet games. String lights or a lantern can make the fort feel extra magical.

Step 7: Enjoy Your Fort
Invite friends, climb inside, read a book, play games, or tell stories. Your indoor fort is ready for adventure!
